God
Loves Fags
Once you get over the awful name (which relates to
the name of anti-gay fundamentalist site 'God Hates Fags') you'll
find great ammunition for arguing with all those obnoxious
fundies who want gay people gassed. Includes a rebuttal of the
conservative fundamentalists' misinterpretation of the Bible and
Christianity.
The
Heartless Bitch Page
That stands for 'Being In Control, Honey'.
Highlights include making fun of bad websites and sneering at
hate-mail writers and halfwit B.I.T.C.H applicants who cant
spell correctly. At last, someone else as passionate about the
apostrophe as moi!
Hissyfit
Cheery femme fun.
Three Way Action
It's not like that - honest!! Seriously - a good
place to hang out and chat.
Democratic
Underground
For those of us who are scared shitless by the
thought of Dubya with his finger on the trigger. My personal
favourite columns: The Top Ten Conservative Idiots
(like most of them aren't) and Ask Auntie Pinko!
Canadian
World Domination
Not content with inflicting Celine bloody Dion on
the world, now Canada wants to rule the entire planet! Blame
Canada indeed!
Female Genital Mutilation and Gender
Apartheid in Afghanistan
Ugggggghhhhh..... self explanatory, really.
Men Abused By Women
Most sites dealing with women's violence against
men is riddled with anti-feminist dreck about how female violence
is a big feminist conspiracy, yada yada yada. And many feminist
sites focus on man-on-woman violence, ignoring the serious
feminist issue of woman-on-man violence. It's great to find a
site that is both pro-feminist and that deals with this serious,
yet ignored subject.
Women In The Military
Dispelling the bullshit.
Salon Magazine
An excellent left-leaning online magazine.
Feminism and Free Speech: Pornography
Exploding the myths that porn is inherently
harmful and that only men watch it.
Misogyny,
Gangsta Rap, and 'The Piano' by 'bell
hooks' (the lower case is the way she writes it. Yes, it
irritates the fuck out of me too.)
At last, someone else who hates the sodding Piano
for much the same reasons as me! Yes, I know bell hooks has a
tendency to spout bollocks - never take too much notice of
someone who uses the term sexist/patriarchal in the
same sentence twice - but shes largely right on this one.
And Harvey Keitel is about as Maaori as I am, so screw you Jane
Campion.
Just As Fierce
Katherine Dunn rejects the stereotypical notion
that women are less aggressive than men.
Zapping the Myth of Zits
There's good news and there's bad news. The good
news is that acne isn't affected by diet. The bad news is that
acne isn't affected by diet.

Women Crusaders
Women fought alongside men in the Crusades,
despite being expressly forbidden to join. This fascinating site
examines their role in the Crusades, and how the Crusades
affected their lives.
A Boke of Gode Cookery
Medieval recipies for twenty-first century
kitchens. Stwed Beeff and Apple Muse anyone?
Robin Hood Ballads
Full texts of some of the early modern and modern
Robin Hood ballads and plays.

Hoodish, from the original medieval ballads to the eighties
classic Robin of Sherwood.
Renascence Editions
An online repository of works printed in English
1477 and 1799.
Women
Pirates
Yay! Pirates! A site with information on the most
notorious female pirates. I suppose as a history student I should
disapprove of the romantic gloss they put over piracy...but sod
it, I'm just as prone to the charm of storybook characterisation
as everyone else.
The full text of 'The
Subjugation of Women' by John Stuart
Mill
JSM was a man ahead of his time. In the 19th
century he was condemning the shite deal women got, and was
responsible for inspiring thousands of suffragettes, including
Australian 'Polly Plum', who helped inspire the movement in New
Zealand. He did still think that women were 'naturally' destined
for home and hearth, but you can't expect miracles - as
Victorians go he was incredibly radical.
The full text of Mary Wollstonecraft's 'A Vindication
of the Rights of Women'
Even more out there was Wollstonecraft, the first
feminist writer.
The full text of 'The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall'
by Anne Bronte
'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall' (1848) makes the
outrageous assertion that sometimes women have no choice but to
leave a marriage. It's ofthen considered the first feminist
novel, a tag I'm not entirely keen on as I think this is
something of a snub to Jane Austen, amongst others.
Feminist Science Fiction
Hooray! My two favourite things combined!
An Excellent Woman: The Official Barbara Pym Homepage
Enter the lost world of spinsters, clergymen and
unworldly academics - 1930s Oxford life as described by novelist
Barbara Pym.
Martin
Amis Web
He's an ex-boyfriend of Germaine Greer, his
favourite Austen hero is Elizabeth Bennett and he has a warped
sense of humour. What's not to like?
From
The Window

experiential writing from people in all walks of life and all
parts of the globe. FTM is edited by thirteen year old Hero Joy
Nightingale, a self described 'pretentious and pompous crip child'.

The
Games
Capture the final frantic preparations for the
2000 Olympics with Head of Administration and Logistics, John
Clarke, and his colleagues, Bryan Dawe, Head of Accounts,
Budgeting and Finance, and Gina Riley, Marketing and Liaison
Manager. No, just kidding! Capture the political bungles and
incompetent organisation of the Sydney 2000 Olympics in this
mockmentary by ex-pat New Zealander John Clarke.
The Tony Hancock Appreciation Society
Stone me, what a life! A site dedicated to the
best British comedian of them all. Nominal feminist connection:
'Hancock's Half Hour' featured not one, not two, but three great
British comediennes, first Moira Lister, then Andreé Melly, then
Hattie Jacques. Marvelous, innit?
Judith
